Chennai Metro turns off AC due to the city’s water crisis!

May 28, 2019 | 16:32 IST | Editorial |

The water scarcity in Chennai has forced the CMRL to turn off the AC at the non-peak hours, from noon to 5 pm.

The metro totally needs 9000 litres of water for the underground station daily while needing 7000 litres of water for the AC.

Now, by switching off of the AC, the metro will save 30% of the water.

Though this is a welcome move considering the amount of water saved, this is causing inconvenience to the commuters as there is no proper ventilation inside the train or at the platforms.
