Doctors in England will be able to write prescriptions for cooking classes and walking groups by 2023 as part of the government’s effort to combat loneliness.
The Government says that there are more than 23,000 older people across the country who haven’t spoken or socialized for months and battles depression.
The Government’s anti-depression calls will allow the doctor to ‘social prescribe’. The doctors by 2023 can recommend activities like cooking classes, walking groups and art clubs, instead of medication. The Government will earmark $2.4 million for the initiative.
