India fall 34 runs short despite Rohit 133

India goes down by 34 runs in its first ODI of the year 2019 against Australia in Sydney.

Australia opted to bat first after winning the toss and Aaron Finch early. Alex Carey followed soon as well but Shaun Marsh and Usman Khawaja slowly brought Australia back into the game by scoring half-centuries. Their partnership helped Peter Handscomb and Marcus Stoinis to score well. Handscomb top-scored with 71, took Australia to 288.

It looked as if Australia were a few runs short. Unfortunately for India, they lost three early wickets and that forced Dhoni and Rohit Sharma to play a defensive game to take the match as deep as possible and in return, they had to face the pressure of the run-rate that kept ticking. To add fuel to the fire, Dhoni was given wrong out when he was well-settled at 51. With no support from the other end, Rohit Sharma tried his best to take India home singlehandedly by scoring 133 runs but unfortunately, India lost the match by 34 runs.
